Into the Wild

when I saw the movie in the cinema in 2007 what really got me was, that when Chris left his old life it was around the same time when I had finished school and wanted to go elsewhere. Made me realize when I watched it how lucky I was considering that he paid the ultimate price for his freedom. What is it anyways? Having said that, I shouldnt put up any links for watching it online, you really should see it in a cinema. Alaska just doesnt work on a TV screen (even the kickass 42 inch widescreen ones). Nope, a big cinema screen is just about right. Well, just about, because nothing, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING, beats Alaska for real. Whoever has been there will agree!

Neill Young

And I used to hate his music. Not that I didnt appreciate the music, but the guy I was sharing a house with at the time was always playing Neill Young at blaring volume. And not just because of that, more likely because of the girl who was living with us. Anyways in the end, the girl did both our headings for awhile but the guy and I became really good friends and Neill Young is just awesome!

Neill Young - One life

"Old Man"

Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.

Old man look at my life,
Twenty four
and there's so much more
Live alone in a paradise
That makes me think of two.

Love lost, such a cost,
Give me things
that don't get lost.
Like a coin that won't get tossed
Rolling home to you.

Old man take a look at my life
I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that's true.

Lullabies, look in your eyes,
Run around the same old town.
Doesn't mean that much to me
To mean that much to you.

I've been first and last
Look at how the time goes past.
But I'm all alone at last.
Rolling home to you.

Old man take a look at my life
I'm a lot like you
I need someone to love me
the whole day through
Ah, one look in my eyes
and you can tell that's true.

Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.
Old man look at my life,
I'm a lot like you were.

Sodom und Gomorrha oder

Die Kinder der Toxic City
Uncommercial-Short-Mood-Documentary
by Chris Caliman
2011
Canon 7D

Music: Gustavo Santaolalla - Can Light Be Found in the Darkness?

Agbogbloshie is a suburb of Accra, Ghana known as a destination for legal and illegal exportation and environmental dumping of electronic waste (e-waste) from industrialized nations. Often referred to as a "digital dumping ground", millions of tons of e-waste are processed each year in Agbogbloshie

Processing electronic waste presents a serious health threat to workers at Agbogbloshie. The fumes released from the burning of the plastics and metals used in electronics are composed of highly toxic chemicals and carcinogens. Workers often inhale lead, cadmium, dioxins, furans, phthalates and brominated flame retardants.

Exposure to these fumes is especially hazardous to children, as these toxins are known to inhibit the development of the reproductive system, the nervous system and the brain.

This short Mood-Documentary is recutted from the material of the german Documentary "Die Kinder der Toxic City" which i shot this year as a second dop with Jürgen Steiger as the first dop with Christian Bock -director- in Ghana.

This pictures are all shooted by me...

here is the link to the original full lengh german documentary from the ZDF:

Ultimately, martial arts means...

Eventually arrived back in the wild west and while unpacking STUMBLED upon this absolute gem: The Master himself, Bruce Lee, with his definition of Martial Arts:
Knowledge in martial arts actually means self-knowledge. A martial artist has to take responsibility for himself and accept the consequences of his own doing. The understanding of JKD is through personal feeling from movement to movement in the mirror of the relationship and not through a process of isolation. (Jeet Kune Do is training and discipline towards the ultimate reality in combat. Jeet Kune-Do is the only non-classical style of Chinese Kung Fu in existence today. It is simple in its execution, although not so simple to explain. Jeet means 'to stop, to stem, to intercept,' while Kune means 'fist' or 'style,' and Do means 'the way' or 'the ultimate reality.' In other words--'The Way of the Intercepting Fist.') To be is to be related. To isolate is death. To me, ultimately, martial arts means honestly expressing yourself. Now, it is very difficult to do. It has always been very easy for me to put on a show and be cocky, and be flooded with a cocky feeling and feel pretty cool and all that. I can make all kinds of phoney things. Blinded by it. Or I can show some really fancy movement. But to experience oneself honestly, not lying to oneself, and to express myself honestly, now that is very hard to do.
